OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT/SECTION

The Cross Functional Business Analyst Team is part of the Technology Innovation Management team and is responsible for providing support and development for the Bank in EMEA and internationally for the Securities business.

The team supports the Bank’s and Securities’ change programmes by providing analysts with the requisite business and systems knowledge to work on projects typically under the governance of a project manager within the CHG department. The team incorporates analysts with experience of the Bank’s and Securities’ processes and systems, and specialist knowledge of the different business functions. The team is organized into four sub-teams with a lead for each:

  • Front and Back Office

  • Risk/Finance

  • Compliance/Regulatory

  • Murex

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

  • The incumbent will have business analyst, project management and team lead responsibilities.

  • The business analyst role primarily focuses on gathering and confirming the scope and requirements for projects, and subsequently validating that the solution has delivered these.

  • Business analysts are typically involved in all phases of the project life-cycle, working closely with both the business users and the technology staff facilitating a clear understanding of the solution being delivered.

  • Projects are typically led by a project manager from the CHG department but for specific projects requiring deep business knowledge, these can be led by the incumbent. Where a project is led by CHG the exact scope of the business analyst role on a project will be set out by the PM. Where a project is lead by the incumbent, they will be responsible for full project documentation, resourcing, planning and communication, as well as Business Analyst management.

  • As a team lead the incumbent will manage those business analysts engaged in projects falling within the Front and Back Office portfolio.

  • The team lead will take ownership of business analysis for a portfolio of projects, working closely with CHG and business stakeholders to actively manage the business analysts and the work they are undertaking.

  • Working in partnership with the CHG portfolio manager the team lead will ensure suitable business analyst resource availability for the planned projects, hiring and engaging contractors or consultants as required.

  • Prioritisation and active management of team members and their workload.

  • Responsible for people management across the team, ensuring the right people in the right roles with a strong focus on building future capabilities. Ownership of career development for staff, yearly appraisals, regular management meetings and conflict management.

  • The team lead should have strong knowledge and experience of working on Front and Back office projects and will be in a position to provide guidance and support to team members.

  • They will provide a lead example for the culture and behaviours required in the bank.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performing requirements gathering and compiling formal Business Requirements and Functional Specification documents. Seeking and gaining approvals for any such documentation.

  • Project Management as required - build project plans, deliver outcomes on time, schedule tasks, delegate assignments and manage project conflicts. Track the progress and performance of the project, along with the performance and efficiency of team members.

  • Formulating and presenting proposed solutions to the business users. This may incorporate illustrative calculations using production data.

  • Formulating testing approaches and compiling test plans and test cases. Seeking and gaining approval for any such documentation.

  • Performing system/integration testing and supporting business users with user acceptance testing.

  • Compiling and presenting test results.

  • Completing project/work-stream status reports.

  • Escalating issues/risks to project/line management.

  • Troubleshooting issues and assisting the BAU Support Team(s).

  • Providing subject matter expertise to support TEC initiatives, as required e.g. presenting solutions to other parts of the organisation.

  • Lead, direct and manage staff within the team to ensure that they:

  • Understand the responsibilities applicable to their roles

  • Comply with company policies and procedures

  • Conduct themselves in a manner commensurate with company values

  • Actively manage performance, develop talent and identify training requirements to ensure current and future skill requirements are met.

  • Manage hiring processes and contractor/consultant engagements.

  • Lead and promote a dynamic, delivery driven culture that works alongside business units to provide responsive resolutions and value driven solutions.

  • Ensure that the team operates in a controlled way in accordance with standard procedures and adhering to related security and compliance procedures

  • Co-ordinate with the CHG project portfolio manager to ensure that initiatives are adequately resourced with staff having the appropriate skillsets.

  • Lead by example in building relationships across the bank, establishing a strong peer network and helping to strengthen collaboration.

SILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Front and Back Office Business analysis experience working for a top tier bank or consultancy.

  • An understanding of the project life-cycle and experience of compiling proposal, scope, requirements, project plans and testing documents.

  • Broad product knowledge incorporating some of the following: Bonds, Derivatives, Securities Financing, FX and Loans and Deposits.

  • Proven stakeholder management skills and ability to negotiate with stakeholders.

  • Strong Murex knowledge and familiarity with regulations impacting the bank (FO and BO).

  • A good understanding of the scope and purpose of the core banking functions.

  • Knowledge of SQL (able to query and examine data, rather than build solutions).

  • Ability and experience of working under pressure.

  • Ability to liaise with business and IT stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

  • Solid communication skills - both written and oral.

  • Experience of managing a team (project or support).

PERFORMANCE AND DUTIES

The role holder will be assessed in accordance with their employing entity’s performance framework and process with relevant input obtained from the dual hatting entity as relevant.

As duties and responsibilities change, the job description will be reviewed and emended in consultation with the role holder. The role holder will carry out other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the role as requested by their line manager or Group Head.
