Overview of the Department/Section

MUFG has many years of experience in providing financial services to market participants from across the commodity markets. We have developed in-depth relationships with producers, processors, and traders in the energy, metals, mining and agri-commodities sectors.

Main Purpose of the Role

Relationship Manager/Originator and Structured Trade Finance (“STF”) product specialist for a portfolio of clients to which STF products and solutions have been extended. Ensure a proper monitoring of STF exposure and facilities on these clients. Market STF products to target commodity producers and commodity traders, originate new deals and structure new transactions. Sectors covered within the team include: Oil & Gas, Metals, Agri & evolving asset classes such as Carbon Permits.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio management:

  • Together with STF analysts / execution team, manage a portfolio of existing clients / facilities to ensure proper monitoring of the risks (including management of any restructuring process if required), as well as a proper maintenance of the files in line with the Bank’s internal procedures and reporting requirements.

Marketing coordination responsibility over assigned geographies within EMEA:

  • Together with the Head of Structured Trade Finance Origination for EMEA, be responsible for determining and implementing the STF marketing strategy in assigned geographies.

  • Responsible for organising market intelligence in assigned geographies, organising marketing trips and prospects (jointly with Commodity Finance, Corporate Banking Division for EMEA (EBD), Structured Finance Office for EMEA (ESFO), Syndications, other stakeholders if applicable).

Origination:

  • With a view to securing new deals mandates, originate, negotiate and structure new transactions by proposing ideas, showing concepts and structures to clients and finding solutions for them, while meeting as well the bank credit policy and other requirements.

  • Develop the capacity and the track-record of the bank in playing lead / visible roles in the arranging of STF Facilities to clients.

  • Engage actively with internal stakeholders and market participant to keep abreast of new structures/asset classes (such as Carbon Permits monetisation) to master the same and be in a position to market successfully to our client base / prospective new clients.

  • On-board new clients for the bank or for STF.

  • Prepare pitches for client meetings and responses to RFP in a timely and professional manner.

Deal delivery:

  • Together with STF analysts / execution team, lead, contribute to and supervise the various phases in the implementation of the new transactions: due diligence, modelling if required, further structuring, credit, syndication, documentation, closing phases.

Practice:

  • Liaise with and manage all relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure the bank meets the clients’ expectations and follows best practices for the STF franchise including all ESG related developments and initiatives.

  • Communicate effectively with all internal stakeholders to ensure understanding and validation of all aspects of STF transactions.

Adaptation:

Keep abreast of current and on-going changes and developments in the commodity sector, in the way financing is extended to this sector, in the regulatory environment applying to our Bank and the internal policies / procedures applying to our activity.

Team /overall ECSTF promotion:

  • Share information and expertise with other members of the team. Train and develop knowledge / expertise of more junior members of the team.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in a client relationship management / origination role in the Structured Trade Finance area or in a structured financing activity.

Skills and Experience

Functional / Technical Competencies:

  • Strong Financial and credit analysis skills

  • Sound knowledge of commodities sectors and markets expertise

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in emerging markets

  • Demonstrable understanding and existing relationships with STF market players (producers, traders, banks, multilaterals)

  • Strong commerciality and ability to negotiate with clients

  • Strong knowledge of STF products and strong structuring skills

  • Knowledge of compliance and regulatory issues including but not limited to Sanctions

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Ability to successfully work in deal teams

  • Clear communication

  • Language skills a plus
