Employee relations focuses on creating and delivering people practices which develop and maintain a positive working relationship between employees and MUFG, while managing employment risk for the business.

The key objective of this role is to manage a variety of employee relations cases and provide advice, guidance and support to HR Business Partners, people managers, employees and ER specialist. The role requires the development of strong partnerships with key stakeholders both within HR and the business, acting as a subject matter expert in the provision of employee relations guidance and advice to drive the resolution of employee relations issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advise and coach managers across a wide range of employee relations issues taking into account the legislative framework and commercial outcome

  • Demonstration of effective case management of people related issues such as: absence management, performance management, flexible working appeals, probationary processes, redundancies, grievances, disciplinaries and appeals from start to finish including knowledge and experience of documentation drafting /interview procedures for Employee Relations investigations

  • Documentation of investigatory findings and conclusions and responding to allegations in investigatory cases

  • Provide professional HR advice, support and guidance to managers and employees to apply HR policy and procedures

  • Influence managers and work with them to deal effectively and appropriately with the management of a range of performance, conduct and compliance issues

  • Liaise with in-house Legal advisors & Employee Relations Specialist where necessary

  • Build and maintain relationships throughout the organisation and partner with the business/wider HR function in order to resolve ER cases

  • Support HR Policy and Governance reviews as required

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge and experience within a regulated, organisationally complex, fast paced, dynamic environment

  • Experience of end-to-end employee relations case management multiple stakeholders

  • Knowledge of employee consultation processes and requirements for consultation

  • Experience of managing TUPE, off-shoring and outsourcing initiatives beneficial

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Functional / Technical Competencies:

Essential

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, ability to adapt style and tone to suit the audience

  • High level of attention to detail

  • Sound judgement and decision-making in the handling of sensitive employee matters

  • Ability to assess risks with Employee Relations issues and take appropriate steps to achieve resolution of Employee Relations cases within the legal framework

  • Client focused, providing excellent customer service

  • Solid organisation skills with the ability to simultaneously manage conflicting and demanding clients, priorities and activities in a high-pressure environment

  • Flexible in adapting to a dynamic, fast paced environment with a positive attitude and a drive for results

  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and organisational skills in order to interact with all levels of management and employees

  • Good counselling and advisory skills balanced with influencing techniques

  • Demonstrates an ability to prioritise a challenging workload and act with urgency, delivering to multiple, on occasion tight, deadlines

Education / Qualifications:

Essential

  • A degree or equivalent professional qualification or experience in Human Resources, Employment Law or other relevant field.
