Front Office – Supervision and Controls oversight

  • Provide support and training to Sales & Trading (S&T) for all Operational Risk and Control requirements.

  • Develop and maintain S&T Operational Risk processes, controls and reports, ensure Sales & Trading Desk Heads have visibility of key controls impacting their business and risks, near real-time where possible.

  • Assist S&T to capture/document operational risk incidents and any associated actions – help to ensure FO-owned actions are resolved in a timely manner

  • Update and maintain the system of record (OpenPages) for all risk, control, SIIs (self-identified issues) and op risk incidents for the FOC team and wider S&T where required.

  • Support S&T in their assessment of risk and controls (RCSAs) across each FO Desk

  • Assist with maintenance of the MUSE Supervision Dashboard and associated reporting

  • Assist with administration of MUSE S&T governance Fora (collate meeting packs, take Minutes etc) and liaise with Members and action owners where required.

  • Assist with maintenance of the MUSE S&T Controls Dashboard and support resolution of data/hierarchy issues

  • Monitor KRI thresholds between Business and Control/MI Owners

  • Support administrative tasks for the team, e.g. monitoring of Joiner/Mover/Leaver changes within S&T and ensure this feeds into Trader mandate list, Supervisory lists, regulatory monitoring processes.

  • Pro-actively enhance and promote positive conduct and risk culture by ensuring accountability and responsibility is clear across S&T.

  • Continue evolving the control framework and devise and deliver solutions to sufficiently mitigate existing and emerging risks within S&T

  • Review and challenge regulatory control MI and ensure that this achieves both risk management and control oversight requirements for Supervisors

  • Help to support the development and implementation of regulatory initiatives impacting Sales and Trading

  • Develop strong working relationship with 1st Line teams (e.g. S&T, Business Management, Ops, TEC, IDM) and 2nd Line teams (e.g. Compliance, Financial Crime and Op Risk) to ensure ‘best in class’ support models for S&T.


Functional / Technical Competencies:


  • Ability to quickly understand the local nuances regarding systems and internal relationships between departments

  • Good knowledge of risk management and risk mitigation approaches

  • Basic understanding of current regulatory requirements

  • Pragmatic and practical approach to the implementation and application of regulations

  • Good knowledge of operational risk practices

  • Good knowledge of Industry standards and Sales and Trading Business practices

  • Good knowledge of Derivative products and trade flows

  • Previous experience of working in, or directly supporting, a Sales and Trading Business


  • Knowledge of data aggregation and MI creation from low level data; trend analysis

  • Compliance Advisory or Middle Office experience would be useful

  • Experience as part of a FO regulatory implementation project.

  • Front Office Supervision or Controls knowledge/experience useful

  • Sales and Trading product exposure through previous roles (in Business or as part of a Business facing team)

Education / Qualifications:

The role holder will be assessed in accordance with their employing entity’s performance framework and process with relevant input obtained from the dual hatting entity as relevant.

As duties and responsibilities change, the job description will be reviewed and emended in consultation with the role holder. The role holder will carry out other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the role as requested by their line manager or Department Head.


  • The role holder will have responsibilities for both MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc.

  • The role holder will be required to perform their duties and responsibilities on an entity neutral basis, without favour.

  • The role holder is required to follow regulatory requirements applicable to ensure each business is appropriately supported and to maintain the legal entity integrity of each of MUFG Bank and MUS.

  • Working terms are dictated by functional mandates, the terms of the Dual-Hat Arrangement Agreement in place between MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc and any other relevant agreements entered into between MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc.

  • The role holder will have responsibility for identifying and resolving where there may be a difference or conflict in needs between MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc, escalating to their manager where required.
