Overview of the Department/Section

  • The ECA and Structured Trade Finance (“ESTF”) team is part of the wider ECA, Commodity & Structured Trade Finance department within GCIB (“Global Corporate & Investment Banking”). ESTF looks after the ECA Finance and Structured Trade Finance (“STF”) Products and business of MUFG in EMEA.

  • ECA Finance is responsible for the relationship with EMEA Export Credit Agencies (“ECAs”), for maintaining internally their framework, for keeping track of their cover / lending / funding programs and of developments / trends at their end, and ultimately for delivering ECA Finance solutions to the corporate & sovereign clients of MUFG in EMEA and beyond.

  • ECA Finance originates, structures and executes “fit for purpose” ECA Finance solutions for MUFG clients, acting as an integrated team with origination resources across MUFG locations in London and in Amsterdam, providing Product origination, structuring as well as full execution capabilities. The ECA Finance team would also look at a number of structuring, funding and/or distribution solutions for these ECA transactions.

  • STF involves the provision of finance to commodity producers and traders arranged and structured around the proceeds of commodity exports or inventories.

  • Within ESTF, Origination teams are in charge of marketing STF and ECA Products to the various clients of the Bank, in collaboration with the relevant Coverage teams, and arranging and executing such deals in collaboration with the ESTF Execution team in London, which performs transaction monitoring thereafter until maturity.

Main Purpose of the Role

  • Primary focus on marketing, originating, structuring and arranging ECA Finance solutions involving EMEA ECAs for the benefit of the corporate & sovereign clients of MUFG (including ECAs covered transactions to borrowers within the relevant jurisdictions).

  • Secondary focus on supporting the origination, structuring and arrangement of inbound ECA deals into EMEA (ECA Finance transactions involving non-EMEA ECAs, but done for the benefit of EMEA borrowers).

  • Provide support to ESTF Execution team for responsible files, during the execution process and, if necessary, for portfolio management activities.

  • Contribute to the advancement of business marketing, strategy and efficiency initiatives, as required by ESTF management.

Key Responsibilities and Skills

  • Regularly engage with potential borrowers / exporters and related MUFG coverage Relationship Managers (“RMs”) in charge, at a counterpart level, to identify specific ECA Finance product opportunities, in line with clients needs and MUFG’s objectives.

  • Longstanding experience in the Export Finance market, knowledge of EMEA ECAs and their programmes / products.

  • Strong ECA Finance structuring and technical skills, in order to be able on transactions to work out the best mix of ECAs, maximise ECA cover and financing amount through work on eligible contents, work out reinsurance with other ECAs.

  • Be able to coordinate Environmental & Social (“E&S”) due diligence, monitor and review work done by E&S consultants.

  • Work out and implement alternative funding solutions to ECA Finance transactions; work out with relevant syndication teams strategies to distribute certain ECA Finance transactions and support the actual distribution of such deals.

  • Support the relevant coverage teams in structuring and progressing identified ECA Finance opportunities, including communicating with the borrowers / the exporters / the ECAs, as well as contributing to the production and presentation of deal screening memos and credit applications, taking responsibility for the production of the technical sections relating to the ECA Product, as well as completing relevant ECA cover applications when necessary.

  • Lead the execution of progressed ECA Finance transactions, in collaboration with the coverage RM and the ESTF Execution team.

  • Support the ESTF Execution team in their monitoring and client engagement for relevant ECA transactions in the portfolio.

  • Regularly engage with assigned EMEA ECAs to keep abreast of their business trends, programmes and product offerings, and manage overall the bank’s relationship with them.

  • Build and maintain an internal and external network to gain industry and market knowledge and insights.

  • Support discussions with relevant stakeholders in the various ESTF strategic initiatives assigned for the improvement of our efficiency and general business development.

  • Interact with other regional ESTF – ECA teams, Head Office functions and other internal stakeholders to further develop the business, work out strategic directions and Product developments.

  • Ensure compliance with regulations, policies and procedures applicable to MUFG.

Work Experience

  • Advanced knowledge and skills of international finance and specifically working experience in the field of Export Credit Agency Finance essential.

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in ECA Finance at an international bank or equivalent

Skills and Experience Functional

Essential

  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written, is essential.

  • Sound understanding of EMEA ECAs programmes and financing structures.

  • Interaction and negotiation with ECAs for approvals, legal formalities.

  • Experience in coordinating and negotiating legal documentation for ECAs backed finance facilities.

  • Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint skills and experience required.

Preferred:

  • Fluency in another European language (German or Italian preferred).

  • University degree or equivalent qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent qualifications

  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken, including strong presentation skills required.

  • Proven analytical skills, ability to identify and evaluate key issues in complex problems, structures and assignments.

  • Act as a team player, having a collaborative approach to work out strategy and solutions. Be very good and comfortable at collaborating and coordinating with other team members, other teams and stakeholders internally and externally, be very good at communicating and sharing information.

  • Travel required, in particular to EU / other European markets, as well as from time to time to Emerging Markets in EMEA region.
