Overview of the Department/Section

The UK, Ireland & Nordics Coverage team is responsible for managing corporate relationships, generating cross sell in conjunction with product teams, and managing the portfolio and associated tasks. The team has been structured so that it provides industry focus and client coverage across key geographies and sectors including Consumer & Retail, Healthcare, TMT, Utilities, Energy and General Industries.

Main Purpose of the Role

This role will act as a primary contact for a portfolio of existing and prospective corporate clients within the Energy vertical and will report directly into the Head of Energy Coverage. The clients operate across the Energy value chain and include companies within the Oil & Gas, Metals & Mining, Energy Commodities Trading and Renewable Energy sectors. the VP will play a leading role in driving / supporting the development of relationships to meet the team’s economic targets, principally through securing mandates across the product suite and network in a bid to drive income generation and returns above internal hurdle rate. The role requires the individual to take direct responsibility of these clients and to manage transactions, projects and stakeholders independently. The Energy team sits within the TMT, Utilities and Energy team (TMTUE) and this role will require from time to time to work across these sectors to support other senior bankers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall support to MUFG’s corporate relationships across the bank’s products and international network.

  • Significant involvement in the origination and, when necessary, execution of customer transactions and provide marketing support in connection with the delivery of corporate and investment banking products globally provided by MUFG Group.

  • Close involvement in transaction reporting for marketing and credit monitoring purposes, and to prepare timely event memos for senior management in front office and credit for early warning heads up for major transactions or potential credit issues.

  • Coordination of the credit application process and production of the business justification documentation. Note – credit analysis is produced by a separate team but their workload is coordinated by the RM.

  • Coordination & preparation of deal screening committee submission materials and presentation of transactions at deal screening committees as required.

  • Preparation of marketing materials across MUFG’s products.

  • Management of the account planning process for the portfolio to ensure that cross sell is effectively achieved and monitored.

  • Acting as the primary point of contact for clients within your portfolio and liaise with senior bankers and other stakeholders to seek prompt resolution.

  • Liaising with internal counterparts throughout MUFG to gather relevant information to support decision making and planning.

  • Assisting with projects as they may arise as directed by team head/senior management.

  • Mentoring and guiding junior colleagues in particular relating to financing structures, documentation and market practice.

  • Proactively contribute to the organisation of internal and external marketing events / initiatives

  • Liaise with RMs in the Energy sector located across EMEA and coordinate activity with them as required

Work Experience

  • Prior experience in a coverage role essential

  • Knowledge of the Energy sector (defined as Oil & Gas, Metals & Mining, Energy Commodities Trading and Renewable Energy)

  • Experience across a similar product suite

  • Established contacts with companies in this space ideal

Skills and Experience

Education / Qualifications:

  • Degree level education (ideally in business, accounting, economics or legal) and/or equivalent experience.
