Responsibilities:

Shariah Secretariat

  • Undertake administrative/secretarial matters for Shariah Committee meetings - preparation of meetings’ minutes, compiling Shariah proposal papers, disseminating rulings/approvals, custodian for records of Shariah rulings and decisions made by the BTMUM’s Shariah Committee for internal research, advisory purposes and regulatory submissions.

  • Provide trainings to relevant staffs on issues related to Shariah, where relevant

Shariah Research

  • To perform research and study on Shariah issues on proposal submissions to ensure comprehensive deliberation.

  • To conduct preliminary Shariah screening for product/marketing literature approval process, research and vetting of issues

  • Provide day-to-day Shariah advice and consultancy to relevant internal stakeholders based on the applicable decisions and rulings made by BTMUM’s Shariah Committee from time to time.

  • To perform any other duties when deemed necessary and as per direction from Management.

Requirements:

  • Applicant must have a recognized bachelor’s degree from a recognised university in the sciences of Shariah, including Islamic transaction/commercial law (Islamic jurisprudence/Fiqh al Muamalat).

  • Preferably with minimum 2 years of relevant working experience.

  • Able to demonstrate and adequate understanding of finance in general and applications of Shariah in Islamic finance in particular / certification in relation to Islamic finance will be preferred.

  • Knowledge of banking regulatory environment and regulation preferred

  • Good spoken and written English / Good to fair level of Arabic proficiency to enable undertaking of Shariah research.

  • Strong PC skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
