Job Summary

Credit Officer responsible for providing credit recommendations on new transactions and managing a portfolio of client and transactions.. Individual will recommend, monitor and manage transactions and the credit exposure in their portfolio and develop exposure management programs when appropriate. Individuals at this level are knowledgeable of the day-to-day activities associated with managing credit risk but will require input on more complex issues.


The individual will be responsible for credit exposures to a portfolio of borrowers (including traditional asset based obligors) covered by the Financial Institutions and Global Markets Team. They will make recommendations on credit requests based on analysis of relevant credit metrics of a transaction depending on whether recourse or non-recourse including due diligence on sponsors/managers. The candidate is expected to identify the potential credit deterioration of individual transactions/counterparties in their portfolio and maintain timely and accurate risk ratings. Staying current on changes and potential changes in the sector and regulatory developments is an important element. Additional responsibilities will include presentations to senior executives and discussions with internal auditors.

Deal Support

  • Work with business lines/product groups to identify prospective transactions

  • Identify structural risks and mitigates in prospective transactions and recommend/enhance structuring of deals and covenant in line with policies and procedures.

Policy Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with external regulatory/internal policy and procedural requirements

  • Participate in ad-hoc policy meetings to enhance organization wide credit risk framework


  • 7-10 years of work experience in credit or risk related functions.

  • Coverage of Financial Institutions/Hedge Funds not required, though .

  • Knowledge and experience in assessing complex financing transactions across a range of collateral types, including structuring, sponsor/manager due diligence / and documentation terms is a strong plus.

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills

  • In depth knowledge of general corporate credit analysis, credit and risk management

  • Ability to build complex financial modeling to assess the customer’s repayment ability.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in analyzing/supporting investment banking products including asset based lending (securitization, leasing), trade finance and understanding of structure risks inherent in such finance.

  • In depth knowledge of loan documentation and structural risks in corporate finance.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in global relationship management at major money center banks.

  • Understanding regulatory environment both in Japan (FSA, BOJ) and the U.S. (FRB, FDIC). CIB Staff provide administrative support to BTMUS Registered Representative
