The Operational Risk Associate supports the Business Unit Risk and Control (BURCO) team in the “first line of defense,” responsible for supporting and coordinating the application of the enterprise’s operational risk management framework within Global Corporate and Investment Banking (GCIB). Primary focus is on identification, assessment, and monitoring of key business operational risks through execution of MUFG’s Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) framework. The Operational Risk Analyst reports to the GCIB Business Unit Risk Manager (BURM).

The Operational Risk Analyst will play an integral role in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of operational risk management for GCIB product lines and support areas including: customer onboarding, wholesale lending, portfolio management, asset based lending, capital markets, trade finance, funds finance, project finance, structured solutions, securitization, supply chain finance, syndications and transaction banking.

Major Responsibilities:

  • RCSA execution

  • Control design testing

  • Control gap analysis and remediation

  • Key Risk Indicator (KRI) design and monitoring

Qualifications:

As part of the Bank’s Operational Risk Management team, this position requires a general knowledge of and sensitivity to the current regulatory environment; understanding and adherence to the Bank's Risk Vision; knowledge and application of operational risk management policies, programs, and techniques; and the ability to recognize and proactively address risk.

Specific experience in one of GCIB’s core disciplines is highly desirable, preferably within the associated areas of operations, risk management, regulatory environment, or accounting systems.

BA/BS degree or equivalent experience in finance, business or another relevant discipline

Ability to use analytical, evaluative and/or critical thinking skills to assess risks and controls in banking operations processes

Minimum 2-5 years of experience performing RCSA’s or similarly assessing operational risk as a risk analyst, auditor, compliance analyst, regulator in the financial services industry

Ability to assimilate, evaluate and articulate business impact when control exceptions are identified

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to interact effectively with mid and senior-levels of management

Ability to prioritize assignments to meet critical deadlines

Ability to work with a moderate level of guidance;

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Visio

Comfortable working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment

The typical base range for this role is between $96K and $111K per year depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonus and/or incentive compensation.
