Department Overview:

Product and Services Execution Standards (PSES) within MUFG’s Corporate Strategy function oversees risk in the development and delivery of the bank’s products and services, using sound business and risk management principles and practices. The value to our firm is that new and changing products and services are consistent with the bank’s strategic direction and risk appetite, that development processes are governed by risk oversight, controls, and testing, and ultimately, that products and services are delivered to clients and customers as intended. PSES governs the product inventory, risk assessment program, and ongoing product monitoring and testing requirements. We provide central oversight and validation of the execution of the product and services risk management program implementation and operation within the first line of defense.

Job Summary:

The Director in PSES reports to the Strategy Execution function within the Corporate Strategy Division and plays a key role in the design, implementation, and operations of program requirements for the introduction and ongoing monitoring of the Bank’s products and services. This individual is responsible for oversight of product and service risk management programs including governance of the product and service inventory, risk assessment of new and changed products and services, and ongoing monitoring of product and services risks in the First Line of Defense.

Candidate will be responsible for further implementing and enhancing centrally coordinated product and service governance processes and partnering closely with stakeholders to drive strategic initiatives focused on product governance, end-to-end risk assessment and testing, oversight of operational controls and gaps driving product risk. This includes product approval oversight, risk assessment / due diligence routines, aggregated reporting of the product inventory and change pipeline, and continuous improvement of our policies, processes, methodologies, system, guidance, and training through collaboration with risk, compliance, technology, and operations partners.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Implement the products and services program to meet policy expectations, providing direction and governance to all Lines of Business

  • Support initiatives in the development, self-assessment, and enhancement of the program.

  • Assist the SLoD in the coordination and implementation of updates and maintenance of methodology used to identify and assess product and services risks.

  • Provide communications on policy implementation, process, system, methodology, and guidance changes to FLoD Lines of Business.

  • Provide governance, control, and execution oversight for first line of defense products and services risk management activities.

  • Oversee, review, and validate the lines of businesses implementation(s) of the program.

  • Coordinate and Chair first line of defense product governance committee and/or working group(s), supporting the approval of new and changed product and services risk assessments.

  • Participate in and support product and service risk working group(s) of key stakeholders discussing product and service risks and controls, issues, and mitigation strategies.

  • Provide guidance in evaluation of the root cause of products and services related issues, the design of new or modified controls to address the root cause (including compensating controls), and the resulting management action plan(s).

  • Provide aggregated reporting, including discussion and analysis of product and service risks and issues by entity / line of business and risk type.

  • Prioritize system and reporting enhancements with line of business and risk partner stakeholders.

  • Support communication and training for platform and tool use and changes.

  • Establish data and analytics development protocols to support business stakeholders in product management and risk management for new, modified or expanded requirements, including ad hoc special reporting requirements.

  • Work closely with industry partners and peers to stay abreast of evolving industry practices.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years financial industry experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related field. MBA or master’s degree preferred.

  • Broad view of the financial services industry, including experience with different financial institutions, products, and services.

  • Experience with new product approval or other product risk management processes in the financial services industry.

  • Fundamental knowledge of controls and risk management, including risk assessment, issue, and risk event management.

  • Ability to understand the comprehensive reporting and analytics components of a business to establish and end-to-end business assessment comprised by strategic, performance, business activity trends, issue and risks

  • Strong interpersonal skills, interest in and willingness to collaborate, and ability to promote cooperation and good working relationships among team members.

  • Ability to build collaborative and productive working relationships, consensus and a sphere of influence with business teams and others across all functions.

  • Experience with presenting to senior level management and in communicating with regulators and auditors.

  • Team player who can excel in a fast paced, challenging environment with a strong desire to continuously improve and learn new things.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage workloads and prioritize deliverables.
