Reporting to the Head of the Issue Management Group (IMG), within the Central Risk & Controls Office (CRCO), the Risk and Controls Governance & Oversight Manager supports the CRCO Directors and all Lines of Defense (LoD) in the successful remediate of issues with effective and sustainable controls, develops solutions to mitigate risk, and closes control deficiencies across MUFG in the U.S. (“the enterprise”). Additionally, you will review issue remediation plans for complex issues considering cross-function and cross-entity dependencies and ensure issue milestones are being achieved. You will ensure completeness and accuracy of issue data in the system of record for an assigned portfolio of issues, ensure compliance with Open Issue Management Policy and Procedure, provide subject matter expertise on internal controls, and provide general support to CRCO management, as required.
Participate in and minute critical meetings during the end-to-end issue management process which includes participation by all (LoD) and the Regulatory Affairs Office (RAO).
Support the IMG Directors, front line and support units, legal entity leaders, and risk and control teams throughout the Issue Management Lifecycle to ensure:
Issue remediation target dates agreed to are reasonable and include consideration of execution complexity, control effectiveness and sustainability requirements, dependencies, resource availability and time required for review and challenge and validation.
Effective review and challenge occurs for proposed new or changed design of internal controls, policies or frameworks before implementation.
Appropriate validation of operational effectiveness and sustainability occurs prior to submission to the originating source of the issue for final validation, or to the TLOD for Regulator identified issues.
Perform reviews and verification of issue management documentation to validate compliance with Issue Management Policy and Procedure.
Perform quality review of issue remediation status report ratings (e.g.: Red, Amber, Green or “RAG”) against defined criteria.
Ensure the system of record has complete and accurate data required to generate transparent and accurate reporting on the status of all issues.
Review documentation of execution risks and issues associated with the remediation of issues to ensure they are clear and are raised to the appropriate CRCO Director.
Support CRCO Issue Management Directors and CRCO Management in trend analysis to identify common themes regarding delays or risks associated with timely remediation of issue
Support CRCO management with preparation of materials for regularly and ad-hoc management meetings related to the remediation of issues including with senior management and oversight committees as required.
Provide subject matter expertise to the First LoD, where needed, on design and implementation of effective internal controls.
A BA/BS degree from a 4-year college
5-7 years of Banking or Financial Services industry experience
Experience in a Bank Line of Business, Controls, Internal Audit, or Risk Management preferred
Direct experience in controls deficiency identification, complex RCSA testing, or issue remediation.
Experience with large programs or projects including the following is desired:
Process re-design and/or development of governance frameworks, committees, policies, etc.
Fast turnaround, tight timelines, and/or crisis management environments
Experience in remediating regulatory issues
Strong proficiency in MS Office including Excel and Power Point is critical
Experience and working knowledge of Open Pages or a centralized issue management system is helpful, but not required
Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in writing and verbally with all levels.
Excellent critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
Ability to quickly build rapport, credibility, trust, and respect, and be viewed as a standout colleague.
Ability and experience leading meetings, by phone, in person, video, etc.
