Job Summary

The VP of Accounting (“VP”) will serve as Business Unit Controller team (BUC) lead and will have responsibility for various aspects of financial closes monthly, quarterly, and annually as they relate to MUFG BUC, including consumer lending & CRA investments. Maintaining the accounting structure, procedures and controls; and application of appropriate technical accounting and regulatory rules for the areas of responsibility. The individual must thrive in a deadline-oriented and fast- paced environment, enjoy coaching and developing others, and have a passion for continuous improvement.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Leading monthly and quarterly close processes for Consumer Lending Banking BUC

  • Ensuring timeliness, accuracy and usefulness of reporting

  • Overseeing the preparation and communication of monthly, quarterly and year-end internal financial reports for the areas of responsibility

  • Analyzing complex and/or new products and ensure proper accounting treatment

  • Preparing significant transaction analysis that will be provided to the Accounting and executive leadership

  • Participating and playing a leading role in process improvements, operational effectiveness, and automation initiatives related to Consumer Lending.

  • Supporting other special projects

  • Ensuring maintenance of effective internal controls and appropriate accounting procedures for the areas of responsibility, including evaluation of processes and controls for compliance with SOX

  • Acting as a key liaison with external and internal auditors, as well as regulators for their audits and examinations of the Core Banking BUC managed products

  • Training and coaching team members


The ideal candidate will possess 7 years of accounting experience that includes financial service companies. He/she must be hard working, confident, and goal oriented.

The ideal candidate should also possess, at minimum, the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Experience in banking or financial services is preferred

  • Progressive track record of success in managing within an accounting organization

  • Experience with loan accounting

  • Strong understanding of SOX requirements

  • Experience in completing successful projects surrounding process and control improvements and redesign, including accounting systems implementations

  • Strong business acumen, exceptional problem-solving, and analytical skills

  • Excellent ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment. Able to maintain composure under pressure and have the ability to balance competing priorities

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • Unquestionable ethics and integrity and commitment to excellence.


A bachelor’s in accounting is required; a CPA is preferred.
