Overview : This new role will deliver in-depth technology industry knowledge with a focus on industry trends, dynamics, and competitive landscape, accelerate the strategic dialogue between existing and new clients and MUFG, provide access to industry specialized credit organization, delivering faster decisions to the client, align relationships within Technology, Media & Telecom investment banking coverage for M&A and capital markets execution, leverage MUFG’s advanced technology partnerships, innovation, strategic & commercial capital teams and engage with venture capital firms and access partnerships with venture debt lenders.

Role:

This senior relationship banker will be responsible for managing early stage, growth stage, and mid-corporate technology relationships and will seek to expand the bank’s client portfolio within the vertical. The position strives to up-tier existing technology client relationships where appropriate and maintain an aggressive calling plan on prospective clients.

This individual will be responsible to deliver on budgeted financial performance for deposits, loan commitments, loan out-standings and cross sales of related banking products and services, all while ensuring strong credit quality of the portfolio. This will have significant market visibility and will be expected to self-generate leads by calling on venture capital firms, venture backed technology companies and other key contacts within the entrepreneurial ecosystem (CEOs, CFOs, Attorneys, Accountants, etc.). The individual will be expected to identify, negotiate, and present to senior credit committee all aspects of a lending opportunity with the ability to lead a new deal from origination to closing. This role is strategic in nature and as such the banker should utilize bank capital in an effective manner that will ultimately foster long-standing, profitable client relationships.

Responsibilities :

Business Development

  • Target a diverse portfolio of venture-oriented clients across the technology vertical

  • Source prospects and develop new customer relationships within the technology community

  • Explore and originate new business opportunities through marketing activities and contribute to the growth of the business in terms of assets, market share and revenue

  • Cultivating relationships with corporate clients, and developing client networks in areas such as private equity, legal and venture capital

  • Continually work to broaden the bank’s relationship with technology-oriented firms

  • Maintain a high level of touch with clients and continually foster those relationships on behalf of MUFG

  • Support the development of sales strategies

  • Identify cross-sell opportunities and make appropriate referrals

Transaction Execution

  • Lead all aspects of deal sourcing, structuring, negotiating, underwriting, internal credit approvals, documentation and closing without assistance or further counsel

  • Collaborate with the portfolio team to actively manage the credit risk of the portfolio

  • Structure, place and execute financing for buyer-led and seller-led clients and prospects

  • Express complex financial strategies in an organized and articulate manner

  • Continuously contribute to a collaborative, cohesive, active, and rewarding team environment

  • Work with internal partners, Compliance, and Legal to ensure safe and sound deal execution and management, as well as sound overall management of the portfolio

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 10 years of commercial banking or corporate banking experience with strong experience in the technology sector required

  • Outstanding education credentials

  • A proven track record of closing meaningful transactions with Early Stage, Growth Stage and Mid-Corporate technology companies

  • Analytical skills in credit and operational matters

  • Experience with both cash flow and asset-based financing products

  • Articulate and concise communication skills; excellent oral and written presentation

  • Negotiation skills, including the ability to leverage persuasion, diplomacy and salesmanship

  • Manage risk appetite while financing technology businesses

  • A player and coach; maintain and grow personal client relationships while assisting colleagues when needed

  • Ability to gain the buy-in of groups and individuals and foster collaboration

  • Strong skills in credit and operational matters

  • Ability to work both autonomously and as a team player

  • An aptitude for solving complex problems
