Job Summary:

The Relationship Manager (“RM”) is responsible for developing and managing new and existing middle market commercial banking relationships. For the purpose of this job description, a middle market shall be defined as companies with annual revenues of $50 million to $2 billion across a broad range of industries. The RM works closely with his/her clients and prospects to identify and present solutions to their short and long-term strategic objectives. They will then coordinate with the various MUFG Union Bank product partners to structure, price, underwrite and close the various credit, treasury, and capital markets products.

Major Responsibilities:

Business Development:

  • Develop and call on a qualified list of prospects and referral sources with calling activity and closed revenue, deposit & loan outstanding goals.

  • Demonstrate the ability to initiate, advance and close new business opportunities.

  • Responsible for cross selling a wide range of bank products and services to existing and new clients, including capital markets products.


  • Responsible for increasing annual revenue and RoE of existing portfolio, as well as contributing towards region’s annual new business goal.

Portfolio and Risk Management:

  • Manage a portfolio of complex middle-market commercial relationships.

  • Assume responsibility for the credit quality of the portfolio.

  • Orchestrate and coordinate client needs to ensure the highest quality of service and maximum financial return for the Bank.

  • Work with the Commercial Banking Support Center to effectively monitor the portfolio and deliver quality underwriting.

  • Coordinate with Commercial Banking Support Center and various product specialists, to deliver service to the client.



  • Normally requires 7-10 years commercial banking experience with an understanding of debt capital markets (leveraged finance & syndications), treasury services, risk management (rate & currency hedging).

  • Strong sales, presentation, and networking skills.

  • Credit underwriting training.

  • Results oriented.

  • Good interpersonal and negotiating skills (both internal and external).
