Job Description

This position is responsible for supporting the second line of defense (SLOD) enterprise-wide data risk program including data risk policy and standards, risk control self-assessments (RCSA), and risk monitoring and reporting. The individual in this position has oversight and challenge responsibilities for first line of defense (FLOD) data risk activities, including evaluation of data risk and controls in the Bank, reporting relevant findings to management, and maintaining documentation of procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Executing SLOD independent data risk management according to the policy, standards, and methodology; including roles and responsibilities, aligned with the Operational Risk Management (ORM) framework and Basel Committee on Banking Supervision “Principles for effective risk data aggregation and risk reporting” (BCBS 239).

  • Work with the FLOD in defining (as applicable) and monitoring data risk, including business specific and enterprise-wide data Key Risk Metrics (KRM) and the establishment of tolerance limits and reporting.

  • Support coordination with the ORM Challenge teams to provide ongoing independent review and challenge of FLOD data risk activities and compliance with the data risk standards.

  • Support requirements for execution of risk assessments by the FLOD, primarily through Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) methodology and maintaining the data risk and control taxonomies.

  • Using RCSA and other ORM tools, independently identify and assess aggregate data management risks, trends, and emerging risks. Use such assessments to determine if action is needed to strengthen risk management and/or reduce risk.

  • Perform on-going monitoring of data KRMs and ensure breaches are properly addressed and escalated as appropriate.

  • Support production of aggregate enterprise-wide data risk reporting for management and the applicable risk committees.

  • Support independent validation protocols that are risk-based and ensure the bank’s risk data aggregation and reporting processes are adequate and aligned with BCBS principles. The validation protocols will be aligned with and support the bank’s core ORM programs, including RCSA, Third Party Risk Management, New and Expanded Products and Services, and Transaction Reviews. This may include working with the respective program owners to ensure proper coverage of data risks and controls in their respective program’s assessments.

  • Support cross-functional reviews of data risk controls to ensure the data used for reporting, models, and other critical processes is complete, accurate, and timely.

Requirements

  • BA or BS degree, or equivalent related work experience.

  • Three to five years direct work experience in risk management and/or data governance, with at least three years in the financial services industry.

  • Awareness of data management operations from both process and technology perspectives.

  • Experience in data analysis, identifying trends and signs of changing risk levels.

  • Ability to work cross functionally to establish collaborative and productive working relationships.

  • Team player who can excel in a fast paced, challenging environment with a strong desire to continuously improve and learn new things.

  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written, with the ability to document conclusions.Ability to manage multiple priorities and work with limited oversight.
