Purpose of the Role:

MUFG is developing a specialist team for the Portfolio Management of stressed and distressed assets in the Structured Finance portfolio in Asia Pacific.

You will be a part of the Asian Investment Banking Division (“AIBD”) that sits in the front line, responsible for the promotion of Corporate & Investment Banking (“CIB”) products and services in the Asia and Oceania region (excluding Japan). The Portfolio Management department is a key function in AIBD that monitors and enhances the credit quality of the portfolio on a transaction and portfolio basis through direct engagement of external and internal stakeholders and through credit risk assessment and support.

Your role in this dedicated workout team will include supporting the Head of Department in the management and supervision of a team responsible for executing strategies for the management of stressed and distressed assets for Project Finance (power, natural resources and infrastructure) or Real Estate Finance transactions.

Job Responsibilities:

As a Director, you will be responsible for supporting the Head of Department to lead a team to manage the stressed Project Finance and Real Estate Finance portfolio. You will play an important role in our team by taking on responsibilities that include (but are not limited to):

Client Management and Strategy

  • Maximise recovery of stressed assets through oversight, ownership and rehabilitation.

  • Responsible for formulation of risk mitigation, recovery and restructuring strategies through options analysis, and for the execution of these strategies in collaboration with the client relationship team, Credit Managed Assets team (specialist team providing expert advice for the management of stressed and distressed assets) and the origination team.

  • Active management of the overall risk profile of stressed assets throughout project life, including ongoing monitoring of client and project conditions, proactive risk identification, recommendation of risk mitigants, and Management reporting.

  • Implementation of workout solutions through complex stakeholder negotiations with clients, bank syndicates, external specialist advisors and internal stakeholders including negotiation of restructuring terms and amendment documents.

  • Maintenance of good client relationships through regular direct contact with clients to represent the business objectives to resolve issues while managing customer needs.

Portfolio Management, Credit Risk Analysis and Reporting

  • Performance of stress testing, sector analysis and other portfolio analysis

  • Assessment and execution of secondary loan sales in collaboration with the MUFG Distribution Team

  • Preparation and oversight of borrower rating, credit applications and reviews

  • Preparation and oversight of Management, Head Office and Regulatory Reporting

  • Preparation and coordination of internal and external audits, and inspections

Leadership and Strategic Initiatives

  • Provision of support and guidance to team members on structuring, credit policies, modelling and workout knowledge.

  • Implementation of strategic initiatives, including enhancements to the credit monitoring process to improve business efficiency.

  • Supporting the Head of Department in supervising the broader PortfolioManagement team, where applicable.

Job Requirements

  • Degree qualified.Finance, Accounting, Legal or related discipline would be beneficial.

  • People Manager

  • 12 or more years of related experience in managing stressed or distressed assets, workouts and restructuring, deal structuring, credit writing, recommendation to credit committee or being a credit approver.

  • Detailed understanding of banking products, credit risk, financial analysis, critical and data analysis, impact sensitivity studies, financial modelling, options analysis, valuation, financing documentation and legal considerations.

  • Experience in Project Finance or Real Estate would be beneficial.

  • Excellent technical skills, a strategic mindset and business acumen.

  • Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong negotiation, communication and writing skills.

  • Proactive, resourceful and a good team player, with ability to build rapport with internal and external parties.
